Oldhall Farm Raw Butter | Fabulous Food Find
Katy Truss • 14 October 2020
I LOVE butter. I love it so much I can eat it like cheese, especially when it’s as good as this Oldhall Farm raw cultured butter.
By coincidence I was just asked the question; what’s your favourite thing to put on toast... my answer of course is butter. Butter spread so thick onto cooled toast (I make a toast tent so it doesn’t get sweaty!) that you leave teeth marks.
Anyway, back to this Oldhall Farm butter - how bloody cool is that wrapper? Wouldn’t it make a fab wallpaper or wrapping paper? Apparently the salted version is blue - I need to see and taste this! I also really love salt. So I’ve sprinkled some Maldon Sea Salt onto it to properly live the dream.
It is a raw (unpasteurised) cultured butter, which means the milk isn’t heat treated; leaving bacteria that can be great for the gut. The flavour is so fresh and creamy and it has the most fantastic yellow colour to it (I’m sitting here now eating it like cheese straight from the block 🙊).
Next the ethics - Oldhall Farm look after their cows so well. Their dairy cows are allowed to have their calves with them out in the fields; known as Cow with Calf Dairying - a much happier, more humane way of diary farming. It makes fab milk too because the cows are motivated to make it for their babies that are still with them. The Jersey cows (or goddesses to which they are so lovingly referred) get to ‘dine on lush herby grass and home produced forage’. How idyllic is that?
I absolutely love this butter and if you appreciate all those things I’ve listed above I’m sure you will too.
Another fab find from Hodson and Co in Aylsham
- thanks Charlie!
