Testing Dalgona Coffee
Katy Truss • 9 October 2020
In the first few weeks of lockdown I read an Instagram post that exclaimed 'who are you if you haven't tried making a Dalgona Coffee?!' I had not even heard of it, let alone made one! So I sought to rectify this as soon as possible, and as it's just made with a few ingredients it was easy enough to whip up in a flash.
This super sweet, whipped coffee is simply made with instant coffee (or you could use espresso shots instead), sugar and a little water. You whip in a mixer or with an hand whisk until thick and glossy and then float onto milk.
I used this simple recipe from Liberty Mendez at BBC Good Food https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/dalgona-coffee.
So, how does it taste? Super sweet and super strong. It's a proper kick of caffeine and sugar and to be honest I got the shakes after drinking it! Haha! Have I made another one since I made the first back in April? Honestly? No. I probably won't make it again either! It was just too sweet for me, but I don't take sugar in my coffee so perhaps that's why. The way the coffee and sugar whipped almost into a frosting was interesting though, so perhaps some grown up cupcakes could be topped with a smidge of this to perk up a coffee morning.
Do I think you should give it a go? Yes! Why not? Especially if you enjoy a sweet coffee!
